FAW Welsh Cup – Round 4

Haverfordwest County 0 – Llanelli Town 2

Steve Cann was JD Cymru South Llanelli Town’s hero as the striker struck a goal in  each half to dump Welsh Premier outfit Haverfordwest County out of the Welsh Cup under lights at the LHP Stadium, Carmarthen.

Firstly, Cann capitalised on a goalkeeping error to score the opener two minutes before half time, then the striker added another in  the 79th minute with a composed finish to earn the Reds a two goal victory to help his team march into the next round.

Haverfordwest County made two changes to the team who narrowly lost against Penybont last time out in came Rhys Abbruzzese and Ricky Watts for Alaric Jones and Dan Hawkins who respectively both were on the bench.

James Lester and Kurtis Rees (former Bluebird) were named in the starting line-up as two academy products Shivo Hinds and Josh Joda were named on the bench by manager Lee John.

The Reds’ first sight of goal stemmed from good work by Joe Hunt whose cross was met by an Ethan Cann header which flew wide.

In the early stages Bluebirds’ Ben Fawcett struck a low ball across the face of goal, minutes later the striker struck a shot which was blocked and cleared.

The hosts continued to put the Reds under pressure as centre back Lee Jenkins headed goalwards from a free kick in the box which was comfortably gathered by goalkeeper Scott Coughlin.

Against the run of play the visitors took the lead just before the break as danger man  Cann finds the back of Jones’ net to take a 1-0 lead.  A corner is flapped by keeper Jones which allows Cann an easy close range finish.

A minute after the break a snapshot by Jenkins struck the post, seven minutes later Fawcett’s powerful header crashed against the crossbar, The JD Cymru Premier outfit continued to dominate without any joy.

Eleven minutes from the end man of the match Cann bagged his second of the tie so there was no way back for Tony Pennock’s men who crashed out of the Welsh Cup.
